Local Licensed Tourist Guides: the institutional Verona’s interpreters
The institutional role of a Tourist Guide is to interprete those architectonical and urban elements like streets, squares, buildings, artworks in the interest of visitors. They acquire the term “licensed” when complying with local legislation which in case of Verona binds such a profession with a license to be granted upon a specific set of exams in order to certify the preparation.
Most Licensed Tourist Guides operating in Verona have been certified by Provincia di Verona. Their name appears therefore in the Provincia di Verona official list and in that held by Regione Veneto; due to present European legislation are allowed to operate also those certified in other Provinces (especially due to the lack of exams organised in Region Veneto as from 2013): those having shown the necessary competence and professionalism enjoy the trust of the ones licensed in Verona and share with them a huge passion for Verona.
The “ProVeronaGuide” Project
It’s been established in 2020 to offer any visitor the chance to approach Verona with the institutional figure designed for it: the Licensed Tourist Guide. In so doing all visitors have a better chance to visit Verona than just by themselves or even worse, with self-stuled guides ready to let them feel welcomed but without the requested competence nor ethical code unable to provide them with the requested professional approach.
NO ABUSIVE GUIDES (i.e. without License). NO FREE TOUR (they do not take into consideration neither the obvious fiscal aspect of such an economic activity nor the obviuos need for a profession like this one to get paid for their work.
The founders, thier colleagues and partners strongly believe that:
- Tourism should be conveniently nurtured in both the interests of the city’s history and of its visitors;
- Tourism lies on the cultural heritage which therefore should be preserved;
- noone better than local Licensed Tourist Guides can contribute the most to safeguarding the local culture e promote it amongst tourists. This is indeed the main aim of such an institutional figure.
Your local Licensed Tourist Guide in Verona

Born and raised in Verona he had the pleasure to live three years in the UK at the time of his graduation in Economics, and a couple of years in central Italy before discovering the urgent need to get back home and get to know it as much as possible. He therefore managed to be licensed as a Tourist Guide and as a Guida Naturalistico-Ambientale by the local Tourist Board (Provincia di Verona). He’s the founder of the “ProVeronaGuide” project.
